This reading week I had the pleasure of taking a trip back to my home town, and on this particular day experienced some very interesting weather conditions, which made for a rather interesting impromptu photo shoot. With my boyfriend as my lovely, and ever-so-patient model, we stepped onto the deck of my house which backs up onto a ravine, and I snapped a shot of him against the forest quickly being covered in a blanket of snow. Alas, as what seems to be the norm this year, in a few short minutes our dream of having a white winter at last were dashed again as the sun came up and the snow began to dwindle away,as can be seen in the summery, almost sepia toned photo on in right.
Because of the initial stormy weather, I compensated by keeping the shutter speed 1/60 , ISO at 200 and aperture to 5.0. This worked wonderfully for lightening up the dark environment, and I actually ended up keeping the settings moderately the same for the sunnier shots. This just meant that the exposure was higher but I sort of liked the effect! I'm also an addict to photoshop, so I then enhanced the colour on both images. I wanted to bring out the blue in his eyes and shirt in the first image, and the tones of orange in the second. Overall, a successful shoot I must say, and I've come to terms with the total lack of snow...I'm just looking ahead to summer;)
