Marriage...All Because 2 People fell in Love

There was love in the air this past week in Blenheim, Ontario. I spent my reading week busy as a bee helping plan, organize, and participate in my lovely sister Kelly's wedding to her now husband, Marcel. While I was a bridesmaid and didn't manage to actually snap too many high quality photos, I did catch some action shots of the event and wanted to share these.

Weddings are a great time to study a different style of fashion than typical daywear- formal wear is more prominent at weddings (at least here in North America) and its always interesting to study a bride's dress and see how it was influenced by today's trends. My sister's dress had lots of ruching; the layers of pleats and gathers help hide any midsection insecurities, which no bride should have to worry about on her wedding. I think the mermaid style dress also helped accentuate my sisters lovely, curvy body. In my family we have hips and we are proud of them, so the mermaid style dress certainly shows off her hips. All the bridesmaid dresses were different styles to suit each bridesmaids body type.

Enjoy the photos :)

All images were taken with a Canon G12 Powershot.

First image is of the blushing bride and her parents before the wedding being adjusted by the photographer for some pre-wedding shots.

The second image is a quick beauty shot of the bride before the wedding so she could see her hair. I think the lighting really helps accentuate her clear and glowing skin.

The third image is of the bride and her childhood best friend and bridesmaid. The way the light reflects off the fabrics of the gowns shows the difference in the fabric content, and shows how light in weight the bridesmaid dress was in comparison to the heavy, thick wedding dress.

The fourth image is of the dance between the bride and her father. The light is quiet bright in this photo and gives off a romantic, almost twinkling "Twilight" feel to the image. I think particularly in this photo you can see the love being exchanged between father and daughter.

The final image is of the happy couple having their first dance. True love right there folks.

Snow Days

This reading week I had the pleasure of taking a trip back to my home town, and on this particular day experienced some very interesting weather conditions, which made for a rather interesting impromptu photo shoot. With my boyfriend as my lovely, and ever-so-patient model, we stepped onto the deck of my house which backs up onto a ravine, and I snapped a shot of him against the forest quickly being covered in a blanket of snow. Alas, as what seems to be the norm this year, in a few short minutes our dream of having a white winter at last were dashed again as the sun came up and the snow began to dwindle away,as can be seen in the summery, almost sepia toned photo on in right.

Because of the initial stormy weather, I compensated by keeping the shutter speed 1/60 , ISO at 200 and aperture to 5.0. This worked wonderfully for lightening up the dark environment, and I actually ended up keeping the settings moderately the same for the sunnier shots. This just meant that the exposure was higher but I sort of liked the effect! I'm also an addict to photoshop, so I then enhanced the colour on both images. I wanted to bring out the blue in his eyes and shirt in the first image, and the tones of orange in the second. Overall, a successful shoot I must say, and I've come to terms with the total lack of snow...I'm just looking ahead to summer;)

Spring in the city...

When I saw the sun in my room this morning, I went outside to take some pictures with my friend.

I used natural daylight and my settings was:

Picture 1: ISO 100 - Shutter 1/125 - F11
Picture 2: ISO 100 - Shutter 1/60 - F13
Picture 3: ISO 100 - Shutter 1/50 - F20

Clothes:

Picture 1: Knit wear - H&M
Picture 2: Shoes - le château
Picture 3: Top - Monki

Medieval Mood

On yet another trip to the ROM, I stumbled across the museum's collection of armour. I felt the modular shapes of the metallic plates would make for a great vantage point for a collection of structured clothing. Some leading designers such as Alexander McQueen and Gareth Pugh have made very successful collections based of medieval armour. Very inspirational.

I used a small aperture to let in less light in order to achieve a dark, dramatic mood. It lends itself well to the subject matter in my opinion. It also helped to minimize the glare from the glass, which is a constant struggle when shooting at the ROM.

Belt It!

One fine evening me and a few fellow Fashion Communication ladies decided to visit Value Village. First we did a full walk-through and filled the carts, then it was time to try on what we found.
Plaid skirt and an oversized vest
Furry orange coat
Everyone wanted to try it on!
Sequin top

Looking fine
I wanted to capture the fun and the fashion aspects of this trip, so I used a medium ISO and a medium aperture setting to make these photos bright. Since we were inside an already brightly lit building though, I didn't want the camera to let in too much extra light. I also used a fast shutter speed because in this instance I didn't want blurred photos.

Overall, this was a highly successful trip.

Bowties are Back!

I'm happy to say that the bowtie has made its way back into mainstream men's fashion, and I know I've seen a few of you spiffy men in our Fashion program rocking this look. I did this mock-editorial shoot with my boyfriend, who is also excited for the return of the classic men's fashion item. Here are a few from his personal collection:

It's more about bright colours and fun patterns now then ever before!

These photos were taken at two different locations on the same day, which meant the cloud coverage changed as the day went on. I altered the shutter speed, ISO and aperture accordingly for each image, but I didn't always get it right. I could have used higher shutter speed for crisper photos, but it's all about practice, right!

Chanel in the spring...

Chanel's Spring collection has arrived in the shops and I thought I would take some spring pictures - except that the spring weather hasn't arrived yet. So I went to Toronto Botanical Garden and did the photos.

All the images are taken with natural lighting, but it was a bit dark. My settings was an ISO to 100, shutter speed 1/60 and aperture to 5.0. There haven't been any photoshopping on the images, they are real.

I am definitely looking forward to spring...
