For fun, and for this...

This photo turn out really crisp and clear and the figure stands out
well from the background.  Very little depth but a nice portrait.

 For fun, and for this...

I took the photos at a medium exposure, I used ISO 400, shutter speed 1/125 and F 5.0.  I also used the flash for head on hard light to fill shadows on the face and brighten the clothing.

Model: Knox Adams

Clothing: from his closet

The first two photographs feature the same outfit: charcoal grey suit, black shirt and lavender bow tie/pocket square combination.

LOOOOLLL!! FAVE.  I put the focus on the figure so the plant would be slightly blurred to add depth.
Flash fallout caused the back corner of the room to be dim and detract the eye back to the lit up figure.

Something a little different, a little more flashy with a candid pose.

Flash Photography

During a photoshoot with my friend in his apartment, I experimented with using an external flash on my SLR. Personally, I tend to avoid flash whenever possible, but due to dire lighting situations (the loft ceiling lights and single floor lamp were not very helpful) and a wall colour reminiscent of raw sienna, flash was more than necessary. It also turned out to be pretty fun, albeit blinding at times.

Using an f-stop of 4.0, a shutter speed of 1/6 and an ISO of 400, here are the results from this flash experiment. Although not suitable for all projects, I really liked the overexposed look of the shots. The photographs were shot in B&W with their levels later adjusted in Photoshop.

Oscar Fashion

Sunday night was Oscar night!

My friend Mary hosted an Oscar party that was a great opportunity to dress up and make our way to our very own red carpet. In the kitchen was a setup for a red carpet (a red scarf) and Oscar themed back drop that provided a great opportunity to practice some “celebrity” fashion photography.
I used a high ISO and low shutter and aperture setting to compensate for the poor lighting.

Theses are just a few of the many highlights of the night:

two arrivals on the "red carpet," both wearing custom gowns (the girls designed their own dresses)

Three handsome fellas showing off their Oscar duds

Mary the hostess in her Oscar winning gown (Mary won best dressed that evening)

..::Ricochet::..

In my last post I talked about the process of the last shoot I had. For this post I wanted to show some of my favorite images from the actual shoot itself.

Like I had mentioned before, I was aiming for a very dark, avant garde look. Props from this shoot included knives and handcuffs and the wardrobe included various pieces from Jeffery Campbell, Betsey Johnson, Forever XXI and more. Strong lighting and maintaining a cool color temperature were very important aspects of this shoot that helped to create its overall aesthetic. It was shot in the glorified closet known as KHW 60.

Statuesque

My boyfriend came to visit over the reading break and these are a couple shots that happened to have the "statue" theme. Jonathan was a more than willing model, and here you can see his casual, comfortable Toronto-touring clothes. These were taken on 2 separate days but the outfits are similar: lots of denim, hoodies, and his favourite snapbacks (first one with a Grouse Mountain logo and the other a vintage canucks).

I tend to like blurred backgrounds so I used F5.6, and a shutter speed of 1/100. I also  desaturated the photos and upped the contrast to give the photos the look I wanted.

Night Moves

                                 Meet Paige Camirand.
We wanted to have fun, so we had some fun.
Paige possesses a fantastic style, so I asked her to wear what expressed her style most, while staying comfortable and warm.

I wanted to shoot with a hard light, so I chose to shoot at night. Aside from my flash, there was artificial lighting involved because it was unignorable, but it did give a nice, warm orange tone to these photos. Settings: ISO-200, shutter speed-1/125, and aperature-5.0.

Deserted Designs

During Reading Week I was fortunate enough to escape the cold Toronto weather and head to Arizona. Despite all the high end stores and shopping malls in the area, the street fashion that I encountered was less than spectacular - there were no perfect pastels, bold colours, or exotic patterns to be seen anywhere. Sadly, even the polkadots were more ladybug than lady-like.
However, I did manage to find some fashion inspiration in the sprawling Arizona landscapes - and as it turns out, so too did several designers when creating their Spring/Summer 2012 collections. Below are some images of scenery that inspired me while on my trip. I took them on my canon g12 at an ISO of 160, Aperture 4.0 and shutter speed of 1/1000. I’ve paired them with some images and trends from Spring/Summer 12 collections that I think are evocative of the Arizona terrain. (All collections found on style.com).
